Day to Evening Fashion: How to Make a Seamless Transition

Whether you’re headed to a function after work or you’re supposed to meet the girls for a drink at a swanky bar nearby, you may find that your 9 to 5 ensemble does not translate from the office to evening, but that doesn’t have to be the case!

We’ve compiled a list of easy-to-follow tips to help you transition from work to play and everywhere in between, ensuring you stay chic around the clock.

Invest in Versatile Pieces

Whether it’s a little black dress, cigarette pants or a pencil skirt, when it comes to transitioning an outfit from day to night, the more versatile a piece is, the easier it will be to style. The right base dress can easily take you from corporate to cocktail ready in a matter of minutes. Whether you pair it with a slim tuxedo jacket for the office or a chic and edgy motorcycle jacket, you’ll get two completely different looks without having to invest in dozens of different dresses for every occasion.

Don’t Change Clothes, Change Accessories

Nowadays, it’s much more modern to have a convertible wardrobe, it’s how you wear the clothes that makes all the difference. Keep an interesting cuff, a pair of chandelier earrings or a bold statement necklace in your desk at work to instantly dress up even the blandest office ensemble. Swap out your flats for sexy stilettos or go from neutral pumps to a pair of strappy heels. Transitioning to heels will instantly give your outfit a dressier, more pulled together look. And finally, ditch your roomy day time tote for a colorful clutch or glitzy side bag for a more polished and party-ready vibe.

Be a Stunner all Day Long

The same makeup MO doesn’t always work both day and night. Once the sun goes down you’ll need to kick it up a notch, with the trick being to amp up your day time makeup by adding more makeup without looking overdone.

Easier than it sounds, we suggest starting by erasing the damage you’ve done throughout the day. Use a blotting sheet to remove any oils that may have built up during the day, wipe away any smeared eye makeup, and touch up your foundation and concealer as needed.

For a sultry evening look, use a darker shade of your daytime shadow to really enhance your eyes. Add some to the creases above the eye then use the same shade around the outside corners and under your bottom lashes. Apply liquid eyeliner to your top lash for added glam. Avoid adding more mascara though, as a mix of old and new mascara will result in clumping.

By the end of the day you’ve been up and at it all day, meaning you’ve had increased blood flow to leave your cheeks far more rosy than when you work up; therefore, a minor touch up is all that’s necessary.

To take your pout from day to night, apply a lip color that’s a few shades darker than your natural lip color and top it off with a high-shine lip gloss.
